12th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Jack London Square
featuring a Bay Area-wide High School Choir Competition
Friday, November 28, 2003
Noon - 7 PM

Jack London Square is proud to partner with 102.9-FM KBLX in its first annual High School Choir Competition during the tree lighting ceremony on Friday, November 28, 2003 beginning at noon and ending at 7 PM. The competition will be an all-day event featuring high school choirs from around the Bay Area singing three holiday songs, a Capella, in hopes of winning a $5,000 cash prize. The cash prize will be awarded to the winning choir's music department.

During the day, and especially for children, there will be pictures with Santa Claus, a Santa's Workshop where they can make tree ornaments, and a Kid's Fun Zone with two jump houses, face painting and more. Ethnic food vendors and arts and craftspersons will add to your holiday cheer. The Christmas Revels will perform a theatrical celebration of the Winter Solstice and don't miss the lively tap-dancing holiday trees as they dance throughout Jack London Square! Southwest Airlines will again celebrate their "Home for the Holidays" contest winners.

Join City of Oakland dignitaries at 5:15 PM as they light the tree in the heart of Jack London Square. With thousands of lights and ornaments, Jack London's 65-foot tree will illuminate the Square throughout the holiday season. Admission is free. For more information, please call 510.645.9283.

Photo Opportunity: After taking a special route authorized by the City of Oakland, Jack London Square's 65-foot tree arrives at 8:15 AM on Thursday, November 6, 2003. It will be lifted into place approximately 30-45 minutes after its arrival.
