FRUIT OF THE VINE

A great day of wine tasting needn’t include a long trip to the winemaking regions of Napa or Sonoma counties.  Oakland is home to four new wineries that offer a delicious taste of Syrah, Zinfandel, Merlot, and other varietals from grapes grown in Northern California’s finest vineyards.

Dashe Cellars

Located just off Jack London Square, this winery boasts a tasting room with stainless steel tanks and barrels in full view.  Michael and Anne Dashe create their wines from grapes from Dry Creek, Alexander Valley, and Mendocino County.  Thurs – Mon., noon – 5pm.

Enat Winery

Make an appointment to try traditional and orange varieties of these exotic, Ethiopian-style honey wines - made from honey, water, and yeast – in a tasting room that includes a bamboo bar.

Visit this newly opened tasting room, where you can watch all the winemaking action while you taste delicious selections of true Rhone varietals.  Thurs – Mon., noon – 5pm

Lost Canyon Winery

Integrating state-of-the-art equipment and grapes from some of the most desired vineyards in Sonoma County, this winery is housed in a newly restored 1900’s warehouse on the waterfront.  Fri – Sat., noon – 5pm or by appointment.
